Like several franchises in several sports the Seattle Supersonics are moving to Oklahoma City. Whether this move is good one for the NBA has yet to be seen, but it must suck for Seattle. Losing a team is like losing a loved one, ask Houston Oiler Fans or some of those die hard Brooklyn Dodger fans what its like to have you heart ripped out and be forced to watch as your team is embraced by another city. Not being a fan of the formerly Seattle Supersonics I am not going to take a stand on what the NBA should have done, but how about this for a team name, Oklahoma City Backstabbers.
Backstabbers would keep true to the franchises history as they took one of the NBA's beloved and more historical franchises away from a city, plus in order to complete the move the team had to win a lawsuit against Seattle proving they didn't have to honor their lease, thus they backstabbed Seattle. The name could also work with the history of Oklahoma City, it was founded on April 22, 1889 as 'unassigned lands' and the next day over 10,000 people grabbed land, their was no regulation for this, it was cut throat competition for land that may have caused some backstabbing. A team named the Backstabbers would also garner respect around the league, you couldn't try and screw them over in a trade, the next day you'd be regretting the decision. On the court you would expect a team of backstabbers to do anything and everything it takes to win, even if it bends a few rules. Fans want a winner, with a name like the backstabbers you have instant winners.
I have even posted what I think would be an acceptable logo for the Backstabbers, it keeps the Sonics old green and yellow but gives the new team their own identity.
